Nearly 40 local businesswomen, from real estate and retail to banking and construction, gathered last week on a rainy morning at D’Lite Bistro & Bakery for Women Who Build, an Islander News LocalConnX event focused on entrepreneurship, leadership and personal growth.
The conversation featured Key Biscayne entrepreneurs Florencia Maggi, founder of Hummingbird Journey, and Alejandrina “Ali” Mejía, co-founder of the internationally recognized lifestyle brand Eberjey. Attendees heard candid reflections on success, struggles, challenges and the evolving role of founders as their businesses grow.
“The entire experience felt thoughtful, engaging and genuinely special,” Mejía said. Maggi described the conversation as “so natural and really aligned.”
Guests were welcomed with a breakfast spread by D’Lite owner Alessandra Zurek, who sponsored the event and was pleased with the strong turnout.
“I found Ali and Florencia’s comments inspiring and helpful,” she said.
The event was moderated by Vivian Galego-Mendez of BHHS EWM Realty and chair of the Key Biscayne Chamber of Commerce.
