A woman was killed and a man was seriously injured when they were tossed from their out-of-control boat and then run over — the second fatal boating accident in Biscayne Bay in a week.
Claudia Orellanes and Neil Schwabe were thrown from the 27-foot vessel into the waters Saturday near West Point and Crandon Park Marina., according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The boat then circled back around, struck them and took off on its own.
Orellanes was pulled from the water after a short search but died from her injuries.
Schwabe was airlifted to an area hospital, NBC Miami reported. His condition was not immediately clear.
Dramatic footage obtained by the outlet shows the dual-motor boat speeding chaotically in circles with no people on board before a law enforcement officer vessel jumps in and stops it.
The deadly incident comes days after a Florida CEO was killed in a hit-and-run boat crash during an evening ride with his teenage son Wednesday.
Davide Veglia, the founder and president of South Florida-based ABTS Convention Services, was fatally struck by the larger 30-foot boat while out in Biscayne Bay around 8:11 p.m. His 14-year-old son was hospitalized with a broken arm.
