1. Hernando Beach-area brushfire 90 percent contained
The brushfire that sparked overnight evacuations near Hernando Beach is now 90 percent contained. A Hernando County Fire Rescue spokesperson said just after 10 p.m. that firefighters were able to successfully keep all structures unharmed with no reported damage.
2. Dunedin secures funding for ongoing city pier rebuild
Rebuilding efforts are continuing on the Dunedin Marina area, now almost two years after the 2024 hurricanes. In addition to the docks, boat ramps and marina seawall, the area’s fishing pier is targeted for a rebuild.
3. NASA to launch Artemis II crew in flyby mission to the moon
On Wednesday evening, the four members of NASA’s Artemis II mission will prepare for a flyby of the moon. It will be the first time in more than 50 years that humans have visited Earth’s sister.
4. Hernando blueberry farm still feeling effects from rare winter freeze that damaged crops
A rare freeze that stretched this winter is causing major damage to blueberries across the state.

POLK COUNTY ROAD CLOSURE | Minute Maid Ramp Road Two will remain closed from U.S. Highway 27 to Lady Diana Drive in Davenport until roadway widening and reconstruction work is completed. The roadway is expected to reopen at 4 p.m. on May 8.
