A boat that fatally struck a father and son in Biscayne Bay off Miami Beach has been found nearly a week after the collision, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced late Monday night.

“The vessel sought by FWC officers in connection with the fatal boating incident in Biscayne Bay on March 25 has been located,” the agency said in a statement.

No further information, including the boat’s owner or driver on the night of the crash, was released by the state police agency investigating the crash.

Davide Veglia, 55, was in an inflatable dinghy with his 14-year-old son in the Meloy Channel of Biscayne Bay last Wednesday when the dinghy was struck by a large, four-engine boat between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m., the FWC said.

The boat did not stop after impact and continued north, according to the FWC. The father and son were taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where Veglia died. His teen son was left injured.

Veglia was the founder and CEO of ABTS Convention Services, a company that provided services for medical professionals attending international conferences and meetings. He founded the company in 1995 when he was a 25-year-old international travel and tourism student in South Florida, according to the company’s website. The company is based in North Bay Village.

“He had identified a gap that no one else was filling: international physicians traveling to U.S. medical meetings had no dedicated partner who spoke their languages, understood their cultures, or managed the logistics of getting them from their home countries to the meeting,” the company said in a post memorializing Veglia.
