TPD arrests driver in deadly northwest Tallahassee pedestrian hit-and-run

  • April 1, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A woman is accused of leaving the scene of a crash that killed a pedestrian in Northwest Tallahassee last month, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The hit-and-run occurred March 5 on Capital Circle Northwest and the 4400 block of West Tennessee Street, according to law enforcement. The victim, identified as Marvin Calhoun, sustained serious injuries from the incident and later died at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Tallahassee Police released photos following the crash in hopes of identifying the driver. According to the probable cause affidavit, authorities identified the driver through license plate records, the vehicle description and car insurance records.

Nigeria Grant was subsequently arrested Tuesday and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death.

Police reportedly got the first 911 call at about 6:54 p.m. and according to eyewitness accounts, a black BMW was seen leaving the crash.

Surveillance footage from Red Rapids Car Wash shows the black BMW entering the business at about 6:53 p.m., court documents revealed. The photos released by authorities were retrieved from that surveillance footage.

The business’s surveillance footage also shows the driver observing the front passenger’s side bumper and headlight area after entering the business, per records.

“The driver throws her hands up in the air as if frustrated or displeased with the damage,” according to the affidavit.

The vehicle is seen leaving the business at about 6:55 p.m. and “is then observed traveling westbound at the same intersection at 6:58 p.m., but now with observable damage to the front right bumper and headlight area.”

Detectives identified the car as a black 2014 BMW 528i by looking through license plate readers with the car description. According to records, the vehicle’s tag was registered to Grant, while the car insurance for the vehicle was held by a relative.

The court records revealed that the vehicle was seen on the license plate readers every day from Feb. 23 until March 5, the date of the crash.

Detectives found a Leon County address associated with the relative and on March 11, officers observed a black BMW parked at the residence with the front of the vehicle hidden from view.

After a closer look, authorities saw damage consistent with the crash scene. The vehicle was then towed and detectives found items that belonged to Grant.

Phone call records also tied Grant to the crash as Grant reportedly made calls to her mother at 6:54 p.m. and also made two calls to a relative at 7:01 p.m., per court documents.

Grant’s bond was set at $25,000, according to court records.
