Florida State football’s spring practices are in full force, and there’s plenty of optimism going around at several positions. One that is generating the most buzz is running back.

Pete Nakos of On3 provided some interesting nuggets about where the competition stands at the moment.

Beyond quarterback, buzz continues to build around what the Florida State running back room could look like in 2026. Ousmane Kromah is back for his second year with the Seminoles and has shown how explosive he can be, a source told On3. He’s pushing Texas transfer Tre Wisner for the starting job at running back. The Seminoles also have confidence in Samuel Singleton Jr., a former Freshman All-American who gives FSU three reliable backs. Early enrollee Amari Thomas has also been mentioned as a contributor.

Kromah had a solid freshman season in 2025. His 408 rushing yards ranked second for the running back room and third on the team overall. Plus, he added nine receptions for 147 yards and a touchdown. With that said, the 2026 season was always about him taking his game to the next level, and it’s clear that the time he’s spent working on improving his play is paying off.

Wisner was extremely productive in 2024 at Texas with 1,064 rushing yards and 311 receiving yards on 44 receptions. Last season, he led the Longhorns with 597 yards. He was one of the top running backs available in the transfer portal due to his experience and dual-threat ability, and he’s already showcasing why the Seminoles brought him in.

Singleton finished fourth in attempts with 51 and rushing yards with 360 for FSU while leading all running backs with 7.1 yards per rush last season. His explosiveness was a big asset in a limited capacity, now he will be looking to show more of his skill set in 2026.

Thomas was once committed to Florida State, and then he decommitted and headed to South Carolina. However, FSU would flip him back in November. He was an absolute beast as a senior with 1,825 yards and 22 touchdowns. Also, Thomas gained 228 yards receiving on 10 receptions and scored three touchdowns.

It will be interesting to see how the battle between Kromah and Wisner turns out, and how Florida State will split the carries between the two while also involving Singleton and Thomas into the mix.
