A teen is being charged as an adult in a drive-by shooting in southwest Miami-Dade back in February that left a 15-year-old hospitalized.
A hearing was held Thursday for 17-year-old Adrian Negron Vega, who is facing an attempted second-degree murder charge in the Feb. 18 shooting that happened in the area of Southwest 152nd Avenue and 75th Street.
Officials said the victim and a 16-year-old boy were walking when a car approached them.
According to arrest reports, dashcam footage shows the teens arguing with the occupants of a black Honda sedan. Then, the front passenger’s arm is seen reaching out of the window with a black firearm and shoots multiple times before the car drives away.
The 15-year-old, who later identified as Eydam Ramos, was struck multiple times in the shoulder and ankle and was rushed to the hospital, while the 16-year-old victim wasn’t injured.
Vega and another teen were arrested in connection with the shooting.
At Thursday’s hearing Vega was ordered held without bond. His next hearing is scheduled for Monday.
In a statement, Vega’s attorney Robert Pelier said he was disappointed the state attorney’s office was charging the teen as an adult.
“This decision overlooks clear and compelling information showing that he was the target of an attempt on his life by the same individuals who now claim to be victims in this case. It also disregards substantial evidence demonstrating that Adrian would benefit from the emotional, psychological, and rehabilitative resources that the juvenile justice system is specifically designed to provide,” Pelier’s statement read, in part. “Despite this decision, our commitment to Adrian remains unwavering. We will aggressively pursue every available avenue of defense and will continue working closely with Adrian and his family as the case moves forward.”
