The Stetson Law School alums who were calling for the school’s leadership to denounce Pam Bondi after a February congressional hearing and her handling of the Epstein case are speaking out after her removal as attorney general.
They are now asking for law school officials to revoke Bondi’s honors, including an honorary doctor of laws, her Ben Willard award and her distinguished alumna award.
Hundreds of alumni and current students signed a petition after Bondi appeared at the congressional hearing, where she defended the Department of Justice’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigative files.
Once they gathered about 400 signatures, some of the alumni met with the Stetson Law School dean. Their message was that this was never about politics. They wanted Stetson Law School to reaffirm their ideals of professionalism, and they don’t believe those ideals were represented by Bondi during that hearing.
Bondi is a Stetson Law School graduate. She spoke at graduation a few years ago with a message of respect and love of the law and to speak up for what’s right.
With her removal as AG, the author of that letter to school leaders says they expect the school to speak out by next Tuesday. You can read the letter embedded below.
“Clearly that’s a good development for our nation and I think for the legal profession. And I think it validates what the 400-plus of us Stetson Law Alumni have been urging the dean about since February,” said attorney Johnny Bardine. “But it doesn’t stop our efforts. We’re still urging the dean for a statement publicly disapproving of Pam Bondi’s conduct.”
Spectrum News reached out to Stetson Law School about Bondi’s removal as attorney general and its reaction to the new demands the alumni are making and were told “Stetson Law does not comment on matters pertaining to alumni.”
Supporters of that letter say if the school makes corrective actions, they are suggesting it will restore confidence in the value of a Stetson law degree.
