FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK)—A 40-year-old man is now in the Lee County Jail, accused of killing a woman outside a convenience store.
Rolbert Joachin is charged with homicide and criminal mischief for damaged property. Jail records show he has no address and is listed as transient.
Police tracked Joachin down just a mile away from where police say he killed someone at the D&D Convenience Store. The homicide happened around 8 a.m.
“I came around the corner, and I seen the guy walking off, and then I seen her laying there. I thought she was sleeping, but I looked and seen all the blood. And then I said, Well, damn, this is the murder,” Frederck Ashley said.
Ashley said he saw Joachin shortly after the homicide. When WINK News arrived, crime scene tape surrounded the store and a damaged SUV with a shattered windshield could be seen in the parking lot.
The manager of D&D Convenience Store said the victim worked there. People in the community knew her, like Andre Harris.
“You come to the store often and you get to know the people who work,” Harris said.
FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK)—The Fort Myers Police Department is conducting an active homicide investigation at a D&D Convenience Store on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
There is a disturbing video of what happened to her circulating online, but WINK News is not showing it because it is too graphic. Harris hopes her family doesn’t see it.
“Terrible! I don’t even know how such a thing could be floating around and this woman has family out there so it’s not good that it’s floating around,” Harris said.
As police investigated the scene, they say Joachin left, sparking a manhunt. Javonna Owens, who lives in the area, described the search.
“Over where I live, we were awakened by helicopters swarm of police surrounding,” Owens said.
Police say they caught Joachin about a mile away from the store.
Police say this is still an active investigation. They have not said what may have led up to this violent crime or who the victim is.
