Miami just scored a huge win on the recruiting trail.

Top 100 Lombard (Ill.) Montini Catholic quarterback Israel Abrams gave the Hurricanes a verbal commitment on Friday afternoon.

Abrams picked Miami over finalists Auburn, Florida State, Kentucky and Purdue.

“Miami is a dream school,” Abrams said earlier this week. “It’s one of the offers I wanted as a kid. I said I would get the offer, and I did. It was a true blessing. They’ve had two really good quarterbacks back-to-back. It would be cool to come behind Cam Ward and Carson Beck.”

Abrams arrived at Miami for an unofficial visit on Monday and stayed in Coral Gables until Thursday. The multi-day visit allowed Abrams to get an in-depth look at the program, spend extended time with the coaches and take in practice.

At 6-foot-4, 195 pounds, Abrams is a dual-threat quarterback with a live arm and the ability to create in and around the pocket. Ranked as the No. 3 quarterback and No. 45 overall recruit nationally, Abrams was a top performer at the OT7 event last weekend.

The talented Chicagoland prospect believes he could be a playmaker in Miami’s balanced offensive attack.

“It’s an offense I can fit into,” Abrams said. “I feel like I can help the team with anything. I’m ready to give my heart and everything I have. I think I can make all the throws on the field. I feel like I’m a headache for defensive coordinators, especially when we get into pads, where it really matters.”

Miami’s recent quarterback success has come through the transfer portal.

Both Ward and Beck were big lands for Miami out of the portal. The Hurricanes also added former Duke star Darian Mensah to be their next signal-caller. Some have pointed to Miami’s aggressiveness in the portal as a negative for high school quarterback recruiting.

But Abrams doesn’t see it that way.

“It doesn’t matter,” Abrams said. “The only thing I’m worried about is giving everything I have on the field. I’m going to keep doing that all day. Whoever is in that room with you doesn’t matter. You have to be better.”

Abrams is the eighth verbal commitment in Miami’s 2027 recruiting class, joining Top 100 Miami (Fla.) Carol City wide receiver Nick Lennear, Rivals300 Miami (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna wide receiver Ah’Mari Stevens, four-star Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons tight end Demarcus Deroche, four-star Davie (Fla.) McArthur defensive back Jaylyn Jones, three-star Key West (Fla.) High defensive lineman Josh Johnson, three-star Davie (Fla.) McArthur defensive back Sherrod Gourdine and three-star Palm Beach (Fla.) Central offensive lineman Zaquan Linton.

Miami entered the day with the No. 8 recruiting class nationally.
