JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit is investigating the death of a 64-year-old former inmate who died at a local hospital Friday, the agency said.
Detectives were notified at 12:20 p.m. that Francisco Juan Torres Torres had died. Torres Torres was taken to the hospital on March 30 after he appeared to suffer a medical issue and remained under care until his death.
He was arrested on Dec. 30, 2025, on charges that included operating while a driver’s license was revoked for a habitual traffic offense; resisting an officer without violence; improper display of tag; no motor vehicle registration; no proof of insurance; and operating a loud stereo.
Torres Torres was released from police custody on Thursday while still at the hospital, the sheriff’s office said.
The investigation into the circumstances of his death is ongoing. The medical examiner’s final determination on the cause of death is pending, and no foul play is suspected at this time, the agency said.
