ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — A Jacksonville man has been charged with murder after a stabbing incident at a local gathering on Friday afternoon.

According to the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 12:18 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026, deputies received a 911 call of a stabbing at a residence, located at 623 Maynard Blvd in Jacksonville.

OCSO said deputies quickly responded and detained the suspect. The victim was transported to a local hospital while the deputies were responding to the residence.

The victim, Barry Keith Cooper, 47, of Jacksonville, received life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The suspect, identified as Shakim Zion Bullock, 19, of Jacksonville, has been arrested and charged with an open count of murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Bullock received no bond and will have a first court appearance on Monday, April 6, 2026. The Sheriff’s Office will provide an update once more details are available to be released.
