JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — 19-year-old Shakim Bullock is being held without bond after getting charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Bullock is accused of stabbing 47-year-old Barry Cooper last Friday during a gathering on Maynard Blvd. in Jacksonville. He made his first appearance in court Monday morning where he was given no bond and a court appointed attorney.
A family member of Bullock’s says the incident comes down to a mental health issue.

“I just really want him to get help and I want everybody to know that mental health is really a thing. This situation is just all crazy and jacked up and messed up,” Shakimla Jefferson said. “Just know mental health is really a big issue and big thing in this whole situation.”
Bullock’s next hearing is set for April 20th.
