THE MURDER HAPPENED BACK ON SEPTEMBER. 16TH DETECTIVES SAY THIS MAN, DEVIN JOHNSON IS THE ONE RESPONSIBLE HE’S ACCUSED OF STABBING HIS 69 YEAR-OLD MOTHER TO DEATH. MORE THAN 100 TIMES. INVESTIGATORS SAY ROSEMARY JOHNSON’S DAUGHTER IS THE ONE WHO FOUND HER BODY DEAD AND A RECLINER AT A HOME ALONG JACARANDA PARKWAY WEST. GIVE YOU SOME CONTEXT. THE STREETS. AND THIS MORNING, GULF COAST NEWS REPORTER MERCEDES MARTINEZ IS LIVE AT THE LEE COUNTY COURTHOUSE AHEAD OF JOHNSON’S HEARING. >> DEVON JOHNSON WILL BE BACK INSIDE THE LEE COUNTY JUSTICE CENTER IN JUST A FEW HOURS TO FACE A JUDGE TODAY. HE’S EXPECTED TO LEARN HIS CHARGES AFTER BEING ACCUSED OF STABBING HIS OWN MOTHER TO DEATH. DETECTIVES SAY LAST MONTH, ROSEMARY JOHNSON, DEVIN JOHNSON’S MOTHER, WAS FOUND DEAD IN HER CAPE CORAL HOME ALONG JACARANDA PARKWAY WEST. SHE WAS FOUND HIS LACERATIONS TO HER FACE AND NECK AS WELL AS BRUISING ON HER NECK. DETECTIVES SAY THEY FOUND 2 KNIVES USED IN THE ATTACK ON JACARANDA PARKWAY. THEY ALSO SAY THE 28 YEAR-OLD TRYING TO FLEE THE COLLIER COUNTY DEPUTY STOPPED HIM IN NORTH NAPLES. DEPUTIES THROUGH STOP STICKS AT HIS CAR TO STOP HIM ONCE HE WAS STOPPED. DEPUTY SAY JOHNSON MADE A RUN FOR IT. EVEN TRYING TO TAKE A GUN AND A TASER FROM DEPUTIES. >> A CANINE WAS SENT TO GET HIM AND DEPUTIES SAY JOHNSON TRIED TO CHOKE THE DOG. JOHNSON WAS ARRESTED. INVESTIGATORS SAY JOHNSON HAD EVEN BOUGHT A TICKET TO COSTA RICA AND MAY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY. GULF COAST NEWS SPOKE TO JOHNSON’S OLDER BROTHER DURING A SIT-DOWN INTERVIEW WHERE HE SHARED THAT THEIR FAMILY HAD A ROUGH UPBRINGING AND THAT EVEN IF PEOPLE CONSIDER HIS BROTHER A MONSTER, HE WILL ALWAYS LOVE HIM. >> IT WAS SHOCKING BUT NOT SURPRISING. WE GREW UP IN A FAMILY OF HORRIFIC THE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.
