Lee Board of County Commissioners approved construction of three dedicated pickleball courts at Phillips Park in Bokeelia, part of ongoing efforts to expand recreational amenities countywide.

The $616,199 project includes benches, sidewalks, landscaping, fencing and an ADA-accessible parking space, addressing growing demand for standalone courts.

Built in 1973, the park’s shared tennis courts have long served pickleball players, prompting calls for dedicated space. Construction is expected to begin in May and finish this fall.

The county has also recently invested in additional pickleball upgrades, including resurfacing courts at Wa-Ke Hatchee Park and a $3.2 million expansion at Rutenberg Park.Â
