A good Samaritan said he was assaulted by a man he tried to help after an apparent car crash in Central Florida, an attack that was caught on camera.
The incident happened last month on State Road 429 in Winter Garden, NBC affiliate WESH reported.
Hans Hamilton told WESH that he was driving when he saw a car crash on the side of the road.
“I saw a car crash,” he said. “I saw a door open. So being a good person, any human being would see you would just pull over to check.”
Video captured from Hamilton’s Tesla showed a man in a red t-shirt lying motionless on the ground next to his car.
When Hamilton asked if he was OK, the man jumped up, hopped on the hood of car and stomped on the windshield.
Hamilton told WESH the man then pulled him out of his car, and started kicking and punching him.
He said the man threatened to take his life.
“The whole time he’s hitting me, he’s telling me he’s going to kill me, and he didn’t just tell me,” Hamilton said. “His eyes were void of any humanity.”
The man, later identified as 44-year-old Daniel Coman, was arrested for battery and criminal mischief.
Hamilton said he suffered broken ribs, a brain bleed, multiple contusions and a concussion. He hopes Coman will be charged with attempted murder.
“In my opinion, the only place you see monsters is on a movie screen or in a box,” he said. “Well, that’s where he belongs. He belongs in a box.”
