FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK)—The Department of Homeland Security says the suspect accused of brutally killing a Fort Myers mother is now facing deportation.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement helped track down and arrest Rolbert Joachin last week. The agency says the suspect is undocumented and from Haiti.
The report says the Fort Myers Police Department requested ICE’s assistance with Joachin’s arrest on Mango Street in Fort Myers. Last Thursday, officers say he repeatedly hit a woman in the head with a hammer at a Fort Myers gas station, killing her.
Joachim first entered the U.S. in August 2022, according to the press release. A federal judge issued a final order of removal against him in 2022, but the Biden administration granted him Temporary Protected Status, which expired in 2024.
ICE has lodged a detainer against Joachim, and he will be deported regardless of the outcome of this case, according to the press release.
WINK News obtained the 30-page CAD report, which gives a play-by-play of FMPD’s response to the crime scene at the Fort Myers gas station on Thursday and their search for Joachin. After reading over the report, it says Joachin was known to be homeless.
Officers searched several vacant homes for him. Officers searched miles of Fort Myers for him, and the search prompted multiple schools to go on lockdown.
