HOBE SOUND, Fla. (CBS12) — A Washington, D.C. woman faces charges after allegedly breaking into two Hobe Sound homes, including one that was occupied.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the burglaries occurred Tuesday. In the occupied home near SE Federal Highway, the victim said a woman entered while they were inside and struggled with her while trying to take a dog crate with the homeowner’s dog inside.

The sheriff’s office says the homeowner was able to get her to release the crate before she fled the scene. The dog was not injured.

The second burglary occurred at an unoccupied home on SE Guava Drive but was witnessed by a neighbor. Deputies say the suspect stole jewelry and a vehicle belonging to the homeowner.

Following the incidents, deputies identified the suspect as Roberta Walker, 51. Authorities established a perimeter and issued a BOLO, leading to a large manhunt.

The stolen vehicle was later found near Indian Street and Dixie Highway, where deputies conducted a felony stop.

Walker was taken into custody, and deputies recovered the stolen jewelry.

She now faces multiple charges.
