20 rescued in separate incidents in Fort Lauderdale as high-risk rip currents affect South Florida – NBC 6 South Florida

As high-risk rip currents affected South Florida on Sunday, 20 people in Fort Lauderdale were rescued in separate incidents, fire rescue said.

According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, those 20 people were rescued in 12 separate incidents.

Fire Rescue said that 34 people were rescued in 18 separate incidents on Saturday.

The National Weather Service has listed the following areas as high-risk for rip currents:

Miami Beach

Fort Lauderdale

Palm Beach

Areas in Northern Florida also have a high-risk for rip currents.

The City of Fort Lauderdale released the following statement:

“Red and Purple flags for Man of War Sea Pests and rough ocean conditions with rip currents. Remember that the ocean is a dynamic environment that is constantly changing. For up-to-date beach safety information, please consult the Lifeguards on the guarded section of Fort Lauderdale Beach.”
