While astrophiles remain laser-focused on the moment-by-moment progress of the Artemis II mission some 250,000 miles away, flight crews from the Hawaii Air National Guard 204th Airlift Squadron are braced for action should the astronauts onboard need emergency assistance upon their return to Earth later this week. 

The squadron was selected, along with the Alaska Air National Guard, to be part of a coordinated support rescue mission. The unit is paired with members of a Guardian Angel crew from the 58th Rescue Squadron for potential deployment should an unplanned event require the location, rescue and care of Artemis II crew members.
