Largo to host pre-storm sandbag giveaway
The city of Largo will host a one-time, drive-through Sandbag Giveaway and Preparedness Event on Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m.–noon at the Starkey Road Recycling Center, 1551 Starkey Road.
Participants will receive up to 10 pre-filled sandbags per household to help protect against localized flooding this storm season. Sandbags will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. The event is open to city of Largo residents only, and proof of residency is required, such as a valid Florida driver’s license or a recent utility bill displaying a City of Largo address.
Sandbags will be loaded into vehicles by city team members; each household may receive up to 10 ore-filled sandbags.
Residents will receive information on how to properly use sandbags to help protect against slow-moving floodwaters up to 15 inches deep.
Guests must remain in their vehicles throughout the duration of the event.
