ORANGE PARK- Five individuals suffered minor injuries following a two-vehicle crash on River Road on April 8, according to the Orange Park Police Department.

On Wednesday morning, officers responded to the collision, where a preliminary investigation determined that one driver attempted to pass a slower moving vehicle and entered the opposing lane of travel, resulting in a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle.

Both vehicles, one transporting three children to a nearby daycare, sustained significant damage. The drivers reported minor injuries, and the children also sustained minor injuries consistent with seatbelt use.

Upon arrival to the scene, police said a representative from the daycare arrived and transported the children to the facility to facilitate parent notification.

It was confirmed that the daycare had promptly notified all parents and remained with the children until they were picked up. Officers contacted each parent to verify the children’s condition, and all reported seeking medical evaluation.

The Orange Park Fire Department applied absorbent material on the roadway to address fluids from vehicles, and police, fire and public works personnel worked to clear debris form the roadway.

Following numberous concerns regarding the crash, the police department said the investigation has since been completed. The driver at fault was also issued a traffic citation.
