The Port St. Lucie Police Department is investigating the death of a high-functioning 32-year-old autistic man reported missing earlier Friday.Alexander Joseph Solma was last seen on Wednesday at approximately 4 p.m. at his residence in the 900 block of Southwest Aurelia Avenue. Just before 11 a.m. Friday, the body of an adult male matching the description of Solma was located in the 600 block of Southwest Belmont Circle, west of Florida’s Turnpike. He was known to wander and often walked along the C-23 canal banks, police said. The family noted Solma previously left the residence, but typically not longer than six to eight hours. Their concerns grew when Solma’s cellphone was found at the home, and the length of time he was gone. The family said they believed the time to report an individual missing was 72 hours. The Solma family relocated to Port St. Lucie two years ago from New York. There is zero wait time required in either state, police said.”Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Alexander Solma during this incredibly difficult time,” PSLPD spokeswoman Brittany McNally said. “We are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and subsequent death. We also urge community members to remember that there is no waiting period to report a missing person, especially when they are considered endangered.”The agency is waiting for further confirmation from the medical examiner’s office. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Solma between Wednesday night and Friday morning is urged to contact the Port St. Lucie Police Department at 772-871-5000 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-8477.Stay up-to-date: The latest headlines and weather from WPBF 25Get the latest news updates with the WPBF 25 News app. You can download it here.
