HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (CBS12) — Rapper Offset was released from the hospital after being shot earlier this week outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, according to his representatives on Friday.

The shooting happened Monday night in the valet area of the casino following an altercation, authorities said. Police confirmed the injuries were not life-threatening, and the site was secured shortly after the incident.

A spokesperson for the rapper said Friday that Offset, whose legal name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was discharged and is “up and walking.” The spokesperson also expressed gratitude to hospital staff for their care during his recovery.

Offset later addressed the incident in a message shared on social media, thanking supporters for checking on him and expressing optimism as he focuses on his health, family, and music.

Police said two people were detained at the scene. One of them, rapper Lil Tjay — born Tione Jayden Merritt — was arrested after an altercation that preceded the shooting and charged with disorderly conduct and driving without a valid license. Authorities said he was not charged with any weapons-related offenses. The second person detained has not been charged, and the investigation remains ongoing as investigators work to identify others who may have been involved.

Offset rose to fame as a member of the influential hip-hop group Migos, alongside Quavo and Takeoff, helping define the sound of modern trap music. The Atlanta-based trio produced several multi-platinum hits, including “Bad and Boujee,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The shooting comes more than three years after the death of Takeoff, Offset’s cousin and fellow Migos member, who was killed in a shooting in Houston in 2022.

Officials have not released further details about what led to Monday’s violence, and no additional arrests have been announced.
