Florida A&M track and field team gifted a new canopy

  • April 11, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida A&M leadership was on hand on Friday morning at the Rattlers track to cut a ribbon for the new a canopy gifted to the team.

The gift was thanks to donations from Rattlers in Arms and others. The canopy was installed on the south end of the track.

Tha canopy will allow the team the chance to have a home base for track meets and stay cool when those warmer temperatures start to hit hard.

“People may not know that if [the temperature] is 90 degrees, it’s 110 [degrees] on the track. So allows [us] the shelter that we need to perform,” said track and field head coach Garfield Ellenwood II.

Rick Kinsey, the President of Rattlers in Arms, spoke about the importance of a donation like the canopy.

“When you invest in these student athletes, they win. We just happen to pick winners. You take the golf team, for instance, championships. You take now the track team. This is why it’s significant. They’re number one in the SWAC and have a couple of students who have already broken records. So you can see when you do things such as this, it does pay off in the end,” said Kinsey.
