A recent report by NFL insider Ian Rapoport indicated that the Jaguars are making Hunter a full-time cornerback. As a result, he would take on a significantly reduced role on offense. The team reportedly made this decision to protect Hunter’s long-term health.

“Now who told you this?” Hunter wrote, followed by a thinking emoji. This response appears to cast doubt on the initial report. One of this generation’s rare talents may continue to operate as he did in college football.
Hunter has made it clear since the 2025 NFL Draft process that he fully intends to play both sides of the ball. He is a true blue-chip talent who has showcased his brilliance since entering the league.

The concern lies in his long-term durability. Playing both ways not only makes recovery between games more difficult, but also increases the risk of injury due to a higher snap count.

That’s not to say Hunter can’t do it. The bigger question is how long he can sustain it.vHunter played only seven games in 2025 before suffering a season-ending LCL injury. Make no mistake, though—he appears ready to resume his normal workload once he receives a clean bill of health.

During his rookie campaign, Hunter made a greater impact on offense. Defensively, he recorded 15 tackles, three passes defended, and one fumble recovery.
On offense, Hunter hauled in 28 receptions for 298 yards and a touchdown. Had he played a full season, he was on pace to surpass 700 receiving yards on fewer than 70 receptions.
That shows just how efficient and talented Hunter is. Can he continue to play both sides of the ball long term?
