Officials tracked down and arrested a suspect in Minnesota after a bomb threat sparked panic at a Tampa assisted living facility.
TAMPA, Fla. — A man was arrested in Minnesota for making a bomb threat against a Tampa assisted living facility, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says.
HCSO said a caller reported a bomb threat on Tuesday, April 7 at the Colonnade at Carrollwood in Tampa. Detectives conducted a search throughout the facility and found no explosives in the area.
Deputies later learned that the caller, 33-year-old Alexander Lufriu, had previously lived in Hillsborough County but later moved to Scott County in Minnesota.
Lufriu was arrested the following day the call was made by the Prior Lake Police Department, who confirmed with HCSO that his number was associated with the threat.
He has been charged with making a false report of a bomb, explosive, or weapon of mass destruction and unlawful use of a two-way communications device.
“Threatening lives and causing panic in our community is unacceptable,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “We will track you down, no matter where you are, and hold you accountable.”
The investigation remains active.
