The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Bloodhound Team played a crucial role in locating a missing person after a rollover vehicle crash.
Corporal Steven Sella and K9 Zoe, trained by Scent Evidence K9, responded to the scene when a passenger was reported missing.
The driver of the crashed vehicle was taken to the hospital, but later revealed that his girlfriend had been with him during the accident. Deputies went to the couple’s home but received no response.
Cpl. Sella used the absorption method to collect a scent from a shoe found in the passenger side of the vehicle. K9 Zoe then tracked the scent 1.6 miles to the couple’s residence.
Upon arrival, deputies noticed fresh blood on the back door. After knocking multiple times, a woman answered, showing injuries consistent with the crash.
K9 Zoe’s efforts confirmed the woman’s welfare and led to further investigation. Cpl. Sella is a Scent Evidence K9 Master Handler with extensive experience in recovering missing persons.
