Spirit Airlines will resume service between Latrobe and Orlando
FOR THE AIRPORT. WHEN PEOPLE SEE THAT ARNOLD PALMER REGIONAL AIRPORT HAD ITS LOWEST PASSENGER COUNT SINCE 2011 LAST YEAR, IT’S EASY TO ASSUME WHY IT’S ONLY COMMERCIAL FLIGHT. CARRIER SPIRIT AIRLINES FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY IN AUGUST OF 25, AND THEY’VE BEEN OPERATING LIKE THAT EVER SINCE. DESPITE THAT, THE AIRPORT HAD ONE OF ITS BEST YEARS OPERATIONS WISE EVER. WE’RE IN GREAT SHAPE. OUR OPERATIONS ARE GOOD, OUR FLIGHT SCHOOLS ARE GOOD, OUR RENTAL CARS ARE GOOD. EVERYTHING THAT WE DO IS GREAT EXCEPT FOR PASSENGERS. OPERATIONS LIKE FLIGHT SCHOOLS AND CORPORATE PARTNERS FLYING INTO LATROBE IS WHAT HELPED THE AIRPORT STILL HAVE A FINANCIALLY SUCCESSFUL YEAR. THE FACILITY WAS A PART OF OVER 41,000 OPERATIONS IN 2025. THIS SPRING, THE AIRPORT WILL OPEN ITS NEW TERMINAL EXPANSION, WHICH SHOULD MORE THAN DOUBLE ITS PASSENGER CAPACITY. AIRPORT AUTHORITY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR GABE MONZO SAID THE FLIGHT POSSIBILITIES WITH THE NEW TERMINAL SHOULD HELP BRING PASSENGERS BACK FOR YEARS TO COME. IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL IF WE MAINTAIN IT TO ITS MAXIMUM CAPACITY AND WE’RE READY TO DO THAT. WE’D HAVE TO HIRE A LOT OF PEOPLE, BUT WE’RE READY TO DO THAT, AND WHEN THAT TIME COMES, WE’RE GOING TO BE READY. NOW, ON TOP OF THE NEW TERMINAL OPENING IN THE SPRING, SPIRIT AIRLINES ACTUALLY ANNOUNCED ON THURSDAY THAT IT’S COMING BACK WITH ITS FIVE FLIGHTS A WEEK TO MYRTLE BEACH OUT OF LATROBE, AND THAT PICKS BACK UP ON APRIL 15TH, COVERING WESTMORELAND COUNTY FROM ARNOLD PALMER REGIONAL AIRPO
