Update: 1 a.m. | “The Hillsdale Learning Center is open as a shelter for any residents displaced by the storm. It is located at 22795 W. 255th Street. All Hillsdale Learning Center activities have been canceled for Tuesday, April 14.
Atmos Energy crews are checking meters, while Evergy is de-energizing power to all of Hillsdale until cleanup can be safely completed.
Major roadways are currently being cleared, with additional cleanup efforts set to begin at daylight.
At this time, there have been two reported minor injuries related to the storm. The extent of those injuries is unknown.
Numerous RVs and campers have been overturned, and several homes have been destroyed.
Damage assessments will begin at first light to better understand the extent of the storm and its path.
All entrances into Hillsdale are currently closed. Residents who need access are asked to call 913-294-3232 to be escorted into the area. Sheriff’s Office personnel will remain in the area to provide security for unsecured homes and buildings.

In nearby Ottawa Kansas USD 290 have canceled classes for Tuesday.
“A shelter has been established at the Hillsdale Learning Center (22795 W 255th St, Paola, KS 66071) for residents in need of a safe place. The American Red Cross is on site and will staff the facility to assist community members.
Emergency crews continue working throughout the affected area to check on residents and assess damage.
