A 17-year-old runaway from Orange County was found hiding in the bedroom closet of a registered sex offender, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office said it received information on Monday about the teen, who was believed to be with a man in Dundee. The man was identified as 30-year-old Alexis Diaz-Toledo, who is a registered sex offender, according to PCSO. When detectives arrived at Diaz-Toledo’s home, they said he denied knowing any details about the teen’s whereabouts. While investigating, deputies said they discovered Diaz-Toledo had violated the terms of his sexual offender registration by failing to report two vehicles kept at his residence. After searching the home, deputies said they found the 17-year-old girl hiding in Diaz-Toledo’s bedroom closet. She was returned home, and Diaz-Toledo was arrested. PCSO said Diaz-Toledo was charged with: Sex offender failure to comply with registration requirements.Interfering with the custody of a minor.Sheltering a minor without notifying a parent.Providing false information to law enforcement in a missing person investigation.
