The winner of the biggest award – the Founder’s Award – was Dr. Sandi Huffman, whose team at Tally Spay surpassed 10,000 spay and neuter surgeries this year.
“I was floored,” Huffman said of the award. “It’s so important in my opinion to reach out to people about responsible pet ownership and learning what you need to do when you do adopt a pet. It’s very important that you know what they need so you can provide it for them.”
The Tallahassee Animal Service Center’s Joey Best was recognized with the Animal Advocate award for the exercise, enrichment and companionship he provides to every dog at the shelter in hopes of helping them find forever homes. He attended the awards ceremony with his dog Duke, whom he adopted from the shelter himself.
The Animal Aid Society was recognized with ASF’s Community Partner Award, Tallahassee City Commissioner Jack Porter received its Animal Welfare Champion Award and the Tally Cat Cafe was recognized for helping more than 1,800 cats find permanent homes.
