HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – Susan E. Avalon filed a written plea of not guilty Tuesday in Hillsborough County court, according to a court filing.
The document, filed in the 13th Judicial Circuit, also includes a waiver of arraignment and notice of appearance by defense attorney Carolyn J. Schlemmer of the Law Offices of Lisa B. McLean, Public Defender.

Court records show the filing was electronically submitted at 10:24 a.m. on April 14.
The filing states Avalon waived arraignment under Florida Rule of Criminal Procedure 3.160(a) and waived her presence under Rule 3.180(a)(2).
Avalon entered a not guilty plea in a separate Manatee County case on Jan. 27, 2026. The new filing appears in Hillsborough County court records and is a separate procedural development.
