MANNS HARBOR, N.C. (WITN) – A man wounded in a Sunday deputy-involved shooting in Dare County is from Jacksonville.
The SBI says Truman Gibson was shot after a routine traffic stop on U.S. 64 and Shipyard Road in Manns Harbor around 1:50 a.m.
The deputy and Gibson got into a fight when the deputy tried to arrest him, according to the SBI.
Gibson was hit by gunfire and is in critical condition at ECU Health Medical Center.
The SBI says the 49-year-old was wanted for a probation violation and had a full extradition warrant for a firearm by felon charge.
Court records say Gibson is from Jacksonville and in late January he left his home and had not shown up for any meetings with his probation officer.
