Jacksonville city leaders are advancing plans for a new emergency room in the community.
The city council voted to authorize the mayor to enter negotiations with Jacksonville State University and the Anniston Regional Medical Center to establish a free-standing emergency room at the JSU campus.
The city has committed up to $1.2 million for equipment purchases for the facility. The measure passed unanimously.
