GAINESVILLE – The No.22/25 Florida State track and field teams began the first day of the Tom Jones Memorial Invite with Nafy Thiam setting a new program and U20 Belgium national record on Friday.
 
True freshman Thiam launched a new school record in the women’s shotput with a new personal best mark of 17.30 meters, breaking the 8-year-old mark set by Gleneve Grange in 2017. Thiam also improved on her U20 Belgium National record that she set on March 27 at the Terry Long FSU Relays.
 
Kaden Levings competed in the men’s 3,000 steeplechase for the first time in his career after placing first overall with the eighth-fastest time in program history at 8:55.22.
 
Oludoyin Soremi participated in the women’s 200, finishing as the second fastest ACC runner in the field with a time of 22.10. Amare Williams led the men’s 200, placed 27th with a time of 21.08.
 
Bieke Schipperen led the women’s distance in the night portion of the meet, placing second overall in the women’s 1,500 with a new personal best time of 4:14.12. Leah Taylor followed in third with a career best time of 4:18.52.
 
Florida State will wrap up competition on Saturday with Zianna Curtis and Kaitlyn Bullock in the women’s discus throw at 9:00 a.m.
