TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Police Department (TPD) said two teenagers were arrested in connection with a shooting investigation after two other teenagers were injured on Thursday.
TPD received an initial report that someone had been shot in the 3600 block of Machado Street at around 1:40 p.m. on April 16.
Police said they received an update that there was a second victim injured as they were making their way to the scene.
TPD said the officer found two males, an 18-year-old and a 15-year-old, with gunshot wounds. Police officers provided first aid to the males until Tampa Fire Rescue arrived and transported them to a local hospital.
The injuries were not fatal, per TPD.
According to police, while initial reports suggested three suspects may have been involved, investigators positively identified two male suspects, 18-year-old Jaquez Lawson and a 17-year-old boy, as the shooters.
The report said the shooting was a targeted confrontation and both suspects were taken into custody as they were leaving a residence in Manatee County on April 17. Two firearms were recovered at the residence and taken into evidence, per police.
Police said Lawson was charged with attempted murder, and the 17-year-old boy was charged with attempted murder and minor in possesion of a firearm.
Both suspects were taken to a Manatee County jail pending transport back to Hillsborough County, per the report.
