PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — Florida Coast Medical Center opened its doors to the public on Tuesday in Port St. Lucie.

Officials say the $200 million medical center marks the first new hospital on the Treasure Coast in more than a decade.

“Our vision is to redefine what the new normal for healthcare looks like on the Treasure Coast,” said Tyler Sherrill, Chief Executive Officer of Florida Coast Medical Center. “This hospital was built with our community in mind, from advanced surgical technologies to small details that make a big difference in safety and comfort.”

The 180,000 sq. ft. facility features 54 inpatient beds and a 24-hour emergency department, according to the Medical Center’s news release. An adjacent medical office building also opened its doors with physician practice offices and an ambulatory surgery center.

Hospital spokespeople said the Medical Center is also designed to expand and grow alongside the needs of the community.
