Florida gas prices spiked 14 cents last week but most of the price increase disappeared by Sunday.

On Sunday, the average coast for a gallon of gas was $4.02, according to AAA – The Auto Club Group.

That price was 2 cents less than a week ago, 7 cents more than a month ago and $1 more than last year.

Gas prices could drift lower this week. Reports the Strait of Hormuz would reopen to commercial shipping caused crude oil prices to drop around $13. The drop could translate into a roughly 30 percent swing at the pump.

“Oil prices are reacting to fast‑moving headlines, and that volatility makes it difficult to predict what drivers will see at the pump,” said spokesman Mark Jenkins.

Jenkins noted the drop could provide some short-term relief but with Middle East conditions still unclear, prices could move higher again.
