One suspect told officers he did not realize how fast he was traveling because his “speedometer was broken,” according to an affidavit.
PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla — Two drivers were arrested in Pinellas County on April 18 on charges of super speeding in separate incidents investigated by state and local law enforcement agencies.
The Florida Highway Patrol arrested Donnell Larry Bingham after troopers reportedly clocked a 2019 Infiniti Q60 traveling 135 mph in a posted 55-mph zone on the Howard Frankland Bridge.
According to the arrest affidavit, Bingham’s speed was recorded using a moving, car-mounted radar system. The incident occurred around 2:05 a.m. northbound on Interstate 275.
Later that day, officers with the Clearwater Police Department arrested Daniel Ryan Hatzel following a traffic stop on U.S. 19 near State Road 590.
Police said Hatzel was observed driving a Chevrolet Silverado at approximately 105 mph, with radar confirming a speed of 107 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Hatzel allegedly told officers he did not realize how fast he was traveling because his “speedometer was broken.”
Both drivers were charged with dangerous excessive speeding.
