An arrest has been made in connection with a burglary at Edwards Grocery and a resulting high-speed chase in Jacksonville last month.

Jacksonville officers, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested Marcus Dewayne Evans, 24, of Bessemer, according to Jacksonville Police Chief Marcus Wood.

Evans is charged with third-degree burglary and fleeing or attempting to elude.

Evans was apprehended Monday, April 20. Police said he is the first of three suspects in a burglary and high-speed chase that happened during an early morning in late March at Edwards Grocery on Alabama 204.

“We believe this is the first arrest of three,” Wood said. “Investigators are still scouring over evidence. We will not rest until all three individuals have been arrested.”

Wood thanked the marshals service, the FBI, the East Metro Area Crime Center and the Center for Applied Forensics at Jacksonville State University for their assistance with the investigation.
