ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The mother who was arrested in the murder of her 4-year-old son has been found incompetent to stand trial, court records said.

Diana Cullom was arrested in January after police said she suffocated her son, Finley Cullom, in their Shore Acres home before cutting her own arms.

Cullom’s 16-year-old daughter found her mother and brother covered in blood and called the police, St. Petersburg police Chief Anthony Holloway police said.

Last Wednesday, State Attorney Bruce Bartlett announced his office was seeking the death penalty against Cullom.

According to court records, Cullom was found incompetent to stand trial and is being committed to the Department of Children and Families.

However, this does not mean Cullom’s charges will be dropped just yet.

A spokesperson with the State Attorney’s Office for the Sixth Judicial District said Cullom will be treated to restore her competency to stand trial. If her treatment is successful, she will stand trial for her son’s murder.
