The Jacksonville baseball team rallied in the seventh but couldn’t quite make it over the hump in a 7-4 loss to Sacred Heart-Griffin at Future Champions on Wednesday.
SHG scored four runs in the second inning to take the lead, then scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh to make it 7-1. Jacksonville scored a run in the bottom of the fourth.

The Crimsons put together a rally in the seventh, loading the bases as Drew Gillespie singled, Ryan Headen walked and Joe Reif reached on an error. Jack Rohlk followed with a single to drive in a run. Nolan Peters hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Headen, then Bentley Lagergren singled to chase Reif home to cut the Cyclones’ lead to three runs. But the next two batters struck out to end the game.
Sacred Heart-Griffin out-hit Jacksonville 11-8. Rohlk led the Crimsons with a pair of hits. AJ Charpentier hit a double.
Cy Kershaw took the loss on the mound, giving up seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits in seven innings pitched. He struck out one batter and walked two.
Jacksonville fell to 12-6 while SHG improved to 15-5.

BROWN COUNTY 12, CALHOUN 11
Trailing 11-9 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Brown County baseball team scored three runs to beat Calhoun in Mount Sterling on Wednesday.
Brown County led 9-6 after five innings. Calhoun scored three in the sixth to tie, then took the lead with two runs in the seventh.
Brown County responded. With one out, the Hornets loaded the bases on a walk to Jaxon Henricks, an error and a walk to Connor Flynn. Matt Boylen slashed a double to right field to drive in two runs to tie the score. Then with two out, Jack Sefton singled to drive in Flynn to win the game.

Sefton had a huge day, going 5-for-5 with three doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored, in addition to driving in the game-winning run.
Sefton also picked up the win in relief. He pitched the final three innings, giving up six runs on 12 hits. Sefton struck out two and walked one. Myer Maxwell started the game on the mound and gave up five runs (one earned) on seven hits in four innings pitched. He struck out three and walked two.
Boylen and Wyatt Kassing also hit doubles for Brown County. Michael Kassing hit a triple.
Blake Nolte, Earl Elmore and Tyler Van Dyne had three hits apiece for Calhoun. Jack Zipprich, Max Toppmeyer and Jacob Brannan had two hits each. Zipprich and Brannan each hit a double.

Elmore, Selby Pohlman and Toppmeyer all pitched for the Warriors, who fell to 8-5. Brown County improved to 8-2-2.
FATHER McGIVNEY 13, ROUTT 3
The Routt baseball team was held to four hits in a five-inning loss at Father McGivney on Wednesday.
The Griffins scored five runs in the first and five in the second to take command. Routt scored two in the second and one in the fifth.

Talon Thompson hit a double for Routt. Bryson Mossman, Jacob Brown and Taegan Rives each hit a single.
Routt committed four errors, but 12 of Father McGivney’s 13 runs were earned.
Jacob Brown took the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits in one inning of work. Jonas Brown pitched the next three innings, giving up six runs on eight hits.

Routt fell to 11-7. Father McGivney improved to 15-4.
