To the editor:

The April 15 council meeting contained a performance by our police chief that would win an Academy Award.  I was so impressed that I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen during his “Razzle Dazzle.” He spoke about alterations to qualify for the state appropriation and incorporating some emergency management component. And he said something to the effect this was done in order to “finagle into it.” Which sounded to me, as though they created something that wasn’t there when applying, to get funding for the mobile command center from the state.

The council asked no questions as to why it was needed. There were no comments about whether upgrading the old one would suffice. Why  the hurry? Why not wait to see what the state does before making the decision? This was an insurance policy to make sure they got what they wanted no matter what the state decided.

I sat thinking about who would pick up the tab if the state refused to release the funding because of possible manipulation.  I guess we could see the residents picking up the entire cost of half-a-million for a mobile command center that would look great in the parade on Veterans Day.

It amazes me just how city staff leads the Bozos on council down “The Yellow Brick Road” time after time. They follow like a bunch of lemmings while the residents get pushed off of a financial cliff.  No muss no fuss , here’s how it’s done.
