From the outset, Rhonda Goodall’s goal was to help children discover happiness, love and kindness through her books. The award-winning children’s author and illustrator will discuss her journey and advise other authors in her presentation “Secrets to Writing and Marketing a Successful Children’s Book Series” at the Ponte Vedra Writers meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25. The group will meet in the Media Room at the Ocean Grove Condominiums, 1 Arbor Club Drive, Ponte Vedra Beach.
Using her “Frizzle” series as an example, Goodall will explain how she became a children’s book author and illustrator, describe the publishing options and discuss the use of social media to market her books.
“I’ll explain that the number one thing they should take from my talk is to define what success means for each of them personally,” she said. “And to realize that if they ever stop loving what they’re doing, it may be time to readjust.”
A resident of Jacksonville Beach, Goodall’s first books, “My Pancreas Needs Glasses” and “Frizzle” — the first title in the “Frizzle & Friends series” — were created to help children better understand complex medical issues, whether they are experiencing them personally or supporting a friend, while celebrating the importance of family in all its forms.
After a long hiatus to care for her large family, Goodall found renewed inspiration after the loss of her mother to return to her “Frizzle” series, creating stories that foster kindness, imagination and emotional understanding in her readers.
