At the School Board Meeting of April 22, 2026, School Board Member Joseph S. Geller, District 3, proffered agenda item B-7, recognizing the 100th Anniversary of Miami Beach Senior High School.
Miami Beach Senior High School (Beach High), founded in 1926, is the second-oldest high school in Miami-Dade County. Established through the vision of Miami Beach developer Carl G. Fisher, the school was originally named in honor of his mother, Ida M. Fisher.
Beach High’s enduring traditions, including its colors of scarlet and silver, its alma mater, and its original motto, continue to inspire pride among students and alumni. Originally known as the “Typhoons” and later as the “Hi-Tides,” the school has consistently maintained a strong sense of identity, pride, and spirit.
For a century, Beach High has stood as a pillar of education in Miami-Dade County, educating generations of students who have gone on to make meaningful contributions to their communities. Over time, the school has evolved to meet the changing needs of its students, expanding educational opportunities and attracting a diverse student body from across the district.
Beach High has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to academic excellence and innovation through its distinguished advanced academic programs. These include the International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone, and Dual Enrollment (DE) programs, which prepare students for success in higher education and beyond.
The school’s enriching visual and performing arts and speech and debate programs have inspired generations of creative talent. In addition, Beach High supports student success through comprehensive career and technical education pathways, including culinary arts, as well as a strong tradition of athletic excellence and a wide array of student organizations that promote leadership and service.
Throughout its 100-year history, Miami Beach Senior High School has fostered academic achievement, artistic expression, athletic distinction, and lifelong connections. As the school marks this significant milestone, we proudly recognize and celebrate its legacy, honoring the enduring contributions of its faculty, alumni, and students to the community it serves.
