A man fatally shot two dogs during a fight involving five dogs Friday morning, April 24, 2026, in Fort Lauderdale, police said.
A dog fight turned deadly Friday morning in Fort Lauderdale after the owner of at least two of the five brawling animals opened fire, killing two of them, police said.
The melee happened around 9:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of Northwest Seventh Street, according to police.
During the fight, the man, who has not been named, pulled out a gun and fired several shots, hitting four dogs, said Casey Liening, a police spokeswoman. Two dogs were killed, Liening said.
Fort Lauderdale officers took the two wounded dogs to a nearby veterinarian hospital, Liening said.
The man was bitten during the fight and was treated by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue paramedics. The man went to the veterinarian hospital with the injured dogs, Liening said.
The dogs’ breeds were not immediately known.
The incident is under investigation by the department’s Animal Crimes Unit, Liening said. No charges have been filed.
