Drivers in Cape Coral are confused after two conflicting speed limit signs at the intersection of Santa Barbara Boulevard and Tropicana Parkway, with one sign indicating 45 mph and the other 35 mph. A plastic bag intended to cover the temporary sign has fallen off, adding to the uncertainty.Lakeshia Penn, a Cape Coral resident, expressed her frustration, saying, “Today I was just like, why is the sign still here? They need to fix it.” She added, “An hour later, I drove by. It’s still not fixed, and four hours later, when I went to my appointment, it’s still not fixed, so just take the sign down.”The city of Cape Coral explained that a temporary 35 mph sign was added due to ongoing work on the Utilities Extension Project in the area. However, the bag covering the incorrect sign has repeatedly fallen off. Penn commented, “If they keep putting a plastic bag on there, it’s definitely going to keep happening because that it’s windy, it’s not going to stay.”Kenneth Stkachuk, another Cape Coral resident, said, “It takes a little time, but it should have been done.”The city stated that the project manager regularly checks the location and addresses any issues. Despite this assurance, the bag was found on the ground after the city claimed the problem was resolved.Penn humorously speculated, “We started talking about was it a speed trap? Is there a cop sitting around the corner you know of course jokingly, but just it’s confusing.”The city of Cape Coral says drivers are encouraged to contact 311 if they see an issue like this.
