Dolphins Invite Former FSU QB to Minicamp – But There’s a Catch
The Miami Dolphins have invited former UCF, Boston College, and Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos to their rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. The kicker is – he won’t be a quarterback. Castellanos is participating in Miami and Tennessee’s camp as a slot receiver.
He is an undersized quarterback with limited arm talent, but he is a super juiced athlete on the ground. He recorded over 1100 rushing yards as a sophomore at Boston College. He was reportedly cross-training as a quarterback and wide receiver prior to the NFL Draft and had talks with teams about a position switch at his pro day.
Miami needed to bolster its receiver room in the NFL Draft, and it did that by drafting Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell, and Kevin Coleman Jr.
The invitation for Castellanos to try out for the team is something born of curiosity. His athleticism can be something of use for a team to stash on their practice squad. Castellanos being open to a position switch is proof that he has a good attitude and is doing whatever it takes to play pro football.
