Walmart and drone-delivering company Wing hosted their first Miami demonstration at Miami-Dade College’s Wolfson Campus on Tuesday.
As part of the demonstration at MDC, spectators were able to learn about the technology used in the drones, how packages are loaded on the drones and how the drones deliver packages.
According to the companies, they expect to launch their drone delivery service in Miami as part of their coast-to-coast expansion.
One hundred fifty stores are part of the expansion, and new cities that will be able to use the drone delivery service include Miami, Los Angeles, St. Louis, and Cincinnati.
Walmart and Wing said that by 2027, there will be over 270 drone delivery locations across the U.S.
Currently, the drone-delivery system is active in Dallas-Fort Worth and Atlanta.
The drones, which weigh over 11 pounds, can deliver groceries, household goods and over-the-counter medications.
They reach speeds of 60 mph when they’re 150 feet in the sky, and then they hover at around 23 feet when they lower orders.
Other Florida areas where Walmart customers can expect to see the drone delivery system in action include Orlando and Tampa.
